Meet Calvin B. Williams

I am a proud native of Utica, Mississippi, I have dedicated my life to uplifting my hometown. I completed my education in Utica, attending local schools from elementary through community college. Each step of my academic journey instilled in me a profound understanding of the importance of community, a value that has become the cornerstone of my public service.

INFRASTRUCTURE
  • Facilitated and secured $1 million for the new Utica Police Station, to be built on the old Mixon school grounds.
  • Allocated funding for secondary water well to come online.
  • Advocated and championed resolution in support of broadband internet services in rural Hinds County.
  • Advocated and secured the purchase of a backup generator for the water system to keep town with water during power outages.
  • Improved streetlights across the town of Utica to enhance safety and visibility.
    COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT
    • Supports initiatives within the community to raise awareness for children with different disabilities.
    • Assists youth sports teams in organizing games within our community to build support for local children participating on the AAU team.
    • Supports Amnesty Day in the town to provide citizens with opportunities to resolve outstanding fines.
    • Co-Organized the Utica Homecoming Parade and Homecoming on Depot Street
    • Founded the Utica Farmers’ Market
    • Organizer of Utica First Fridays
    • Assisted in formation of the Utica Food Club
    • Co-Organized the Annual Utica Easter Egg Hunt
    • Executive Director of Utica Community Choir
    EFFECTIVE GOVERNANCE
    • Facilitated the Town of Utica’s transition to a digital payment system for all billing processes.
    • Facilitated the funding and purchasing of four (4) new police cruisers.
      • (2) Ford Tarus
      • (2) Ford Explorer
    • Facilitated the purchase of new machinery and device for public works.
      • New Excavator for water and gas repair.
      • New gas leak detector device
      • Purchase of three new lawn mowers for the town
    • Allocated funding for replacing of water and gas meters
    • Advocated and facilitated implementation of the alert system for the Town of Utica
    • Facilitating the expansion of the natural gas service area to allow individuals outside the town limits to connect.
    • Advocated for improvement of the sewer system upgrades.
      • Town was awarded – $ 600, 000 for sewer improvements.
    • Supports initiatives that would help to combat the Utica being a food desert.
      • Utica Farmers Market
      • Utica Food Club
      • Distribution of fresh produce.
    • Working with local and state government officials to see how to better serve Utica and South Western Hinds County.
    • Advocated for economic development for the Town of Utica and rural Hinds County.
